Effective date: 30 August 2026 (v1.1.0 — usage analytics added)

This Privacy Policy describes how PluginLens for ServiceNow ("the Extension") handles information when you use it. PluginLens is a browser extension that lets you browse, search and analyze the plugins installed on the ServiceNow instance you are logged into.

The short version

Your ServiceNow data never leaves your device. The extension additionally collects anonymous aggregate usage counts (daily totals, via Google Analytics, opt-out in the header) — no personal data, no plugin names, no search text, no instance details, no per-click tracking. See "Usage statistics" below.

Information the Extension processes

Plugin metadata from your own ServiceNow instance. When you open the Extension on a ServiceNow tab, it reads plugin-related information (plugin names, IDs, versions, dependency relationships, roles and subscription entitlement data) directly from the ServiceNow instance you are already using, via that instance's own API and your existing login session. The Extension does not store your password or session credentials; it uses your browser's existing session to request the same data you can see in the instance.

Where this data goes: nowhere. The metadata is processed in your browser and cached locally on your device so the panel opens quickly next time. It is never transmitted to the developer of this Extension or to any third party. The cache never leaves your device and is removed when you uninstall the Extension or clear extension data.

Information we do NOT collect: personally identifiable information (the analytics client ID is a random UUID, not linked to your identity); health information; financial or payment information; authentication credentials (passwords are never seen or stored); personal communications; location (including IP address); web browsing history; user activity such as clicks, mouse movement or keystroke logging. None of these are collected, stored, or transmitted.

Features that touch your data locally

- Local cache — plugin catalogs are cached in your browser's local storage for speed. Local only; never synced.

- Snapshots & compare — snapshots you create are stored locally in your browser.

- Export JSON — exports are downloaded to your computer when *you* click Export. The developer never receives them.

- Theme preference — stored locally.

Usage statistics (Google Analytics)

To understand which features are useful, the Extension keeps local counters of how often features are used and sends, at most once per day, one anonymous aggregate (for example: "panel opened 12 times, Dependencies tab 4 times") to Google Analytics. We do not collect individual clicks, per-action timestamps, session tracking, or any of the following: your name, email, instance hostname, plugin names or IDs, search terms, or any ServiceNow data. The only identifier is a random, non-identifying client ID used solely to avoid double-counting. You can turn these statistics off at any time using the stats toggle in the extension header; when off, counters are deleted and nothing is sent. Google's collection is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. Data retention for this property is set to the minimum (2 months).

Third parties

The Extension contains no advertising and no trackers other than the anonymous Google Analytics events described above. No external code is loaded. It communicates only with the ServiceNow instance you already have open (for plugin data) and Google's Measurement Protocol endpoint (for the anonymous events above). Links to the Chrome Web Store listing and the developer's LinkedIn profile open only when clicked.

Data retention and deletion

Cached plugin data, snapshots and preferences remain on your device until you remove them. Removing the Extension (or clearing its storage via your browser settings) deletes all data immediately. The developer retains no data because none is ever received.

Children

The Extension is a professional developer tool and is not directed at children under 13, and no data is knowingly collected from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a new effective date. Material changes will be noted in an Extension update.
